English Writing Skills Courses

4 hours per week (WR4), 3 hours per week (WR3)

We run courses for people with a very high level of English who nevertheless feel their writing skills are not good enough for their academic or professional careers. If you have problems writing essays for college courses, writing reports at work or you just feel uncomfortable writing in English then the course may benefit you.

The courses will look at:

Punctuation: how to use full stops, commas, apostrophes, speech marks and colons.
Spelling: commonly mis-spelt words, tips for making sense of English spelling.
Sentence and paragraph construction: how to write clear, correct sentences and build paragraphs
Grammar: use of conjunctions, discourse markers, verb forms and tenses
Vocabulary extension: use of more precise, more interesting, more impressive words; useful collocations and expressions

You will learn the skills involved in:

formal letter writing
transactional letter writing
report writing
writing discursive compositions
writing instructions

The course will ask you to fulfill a homework obligation of two short pieces of writing per week.
