Before you arrive in the UK, we strongly recommend that you take out insurance for your own financial and personal security.
You can take out your own insurance or take out the International Student Policy offered by Endsleigh Insurance Services Limited which has been specially designed for overseas students studying in the UK.
The International Student Policy covers:
Please read the International Student Policy in order to establish the full terms of the cover, which is available through the link at the bottom of the page.
NB It is advisable to take out your student insurance at the time of booking your trip as cover will commence for pre-departure cancellation from the policy issue date. This will, therefore, provide cover should you have to cancel your course for an insured reason such as illness or serious accident preventing you from travelling.

Every national from a non-EU country, on a Student Visa permitting employment can work up to 20 hours per week during course time and unlimited hours during holidays. Students who enter the country on student visitor visa cannot work. All EU nationals can work in the UK without any restrictions.
Important: both students and visitors should have sufficient funds to support themselves during their course without needing employment.
We can advise students on how and where to look for part-time jobs - but we are not an employment agency and cannot guarantee employment.
We can provide you with all necessary documentation to obtain a National Insurance Number, provided you have a Student Visa or you are a EU national.

It is currently very difficult for international students to open a bank account in the UK. Before leaving your country it is a good idea to speak to your own bank and find out if they have a link with a UK bank or even a London branch.
UK banks will not open an account unless you can prove you have a permanent address. We recommend that students ask their home bank to send a bank statement to their London address as soon as they know it. This is sometimes acceptable as proof of address in the UK.
Unfortunately, the addresses of host family accommodation cannot be used for the purposes of opening bank accounts.
King Street College can help students with student visas to open bank accounts by giving them an 'introduction letter' to take to a local bank.
Even if a bank does agree to open an account for you, it can take several weeks before you have access to its services. Make sure that you have access to enough money (credit card, travellers cheques etc) to survive for 3-4 weeks.
