Host Family Accommodation

For students who want a safe, welcoming and reasonably priced stay in London we recommend staying with local families - the most popular choice among our students. This means that you will live in an English-speaking home, giving you the ideal opportunity to practise your English in an authentic environment and experience the British way of life at first hand. The home may not always be a family with parents and children. Sometimes it will be a single individual or a landlady who rents rooms to students. Whatever the case, we have checked the suitability of all our Host Families.

Students speaking the same language will not be placed with the same family unless they specifically ask to be.

All King Street College Hosts are carefully selected for their friendliness, the quality of the accommodation and the location. The Accommodation Officer knows all the families personally, and keeps in close contact with them during the student's stay. Each family is given guidelines on housing international students to make them aware of cultural differences and help them deal with any that might arise. Most of our families already have years of experience housing students, and in many cases students have become friends who keep coming back year after year!

Accommodation arranged by King Street College is in accordance with the British Council guidelines for the housing of English language students. This means that the rooms accepted in our accommodation register must be equipped with a study desk with adequate light, hanging and drawer space for your things and enough space to move around the room freely. Your host will make sure that the room is clean and tidy, and that there is adequate heating when necessary. Please remember that as a 'guest' in the house you are always expected to respect any specific house rules.

Please note that the arrival time to the host family must be between 7am and 11pm.

The accommodation:

no more than 40 minutes travel time
clean, tidy and well furnished homes in safe residential areas
experienced, friendly, English-speaking hosts
highly recommended by King Street College students

All rooms reserved are single unless you book together with a friend and request to share a double room.

There are four alternative choices of accommodation:

Private Home with no meals (Accommodation Code AC 01)	This type of accommodation is most suitable for students who want to have the security of a family home yet enjoy the independence of arranging their own meals. Meals available in the school cafe. You will have your own bedroom and share the rest of the facilities with other family members. You will have use of cooking facilities, but typically you will have less contact and communication with the host than in traditional 'homestay' accommodation (see below).
Private Home with Breakfast and use of kitchen (Accommodation Code AC 02+)	You will live in a family house as above but breakfast will be provided for you daily by your host. You will share common living areas with other family members, and have access to cooking facilities to prepare other meals.
Private Home with Breakfast (no use of kitchen) (Accommodation Code AC 02)	You will live in a family house as above but breakfast will be provided for you daily by your host. You will share common living areas with other family members, but you will not have access to cooking facilities to prepare other meals.
Homestay: Accommodation with Breakfast and Dinner (Accommodation Code AC 03)	This option will give you maximum contact with your host family. Breakfast will be prepared for you daily and in the evening you will sit down for dinner with the rest of the family.
