Enrolment Procedure

  1. First read the Terms and Conditions.
  2. Complete the Enrolment Form and send it to us.
  3. We will - within 24 hours - send you an invoice which will tell you how much you have to pay for your course and, if required, your accommodation and airport transfer.
  4. If you are happy with the details shown on the invoice you can then pay. Remember to send us evidence of your payment and the amount in pounds sterling.
  5. When we have received your payment we will issue you with a Certificate of Enrolment that shows the course type and dates, accommodation type and dates (if required), how much has been paid. If you need a visa to enter the UK we will send you either a Student Visitor Visa letter or a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) statement.
  6. If you are applying for a visa we will not confirm your accommodation address until you have informed us of your visa status. As soon as your visa has been confirmed (don't forget to tell us!) we will send you the address and further information regarding your host family.

Please note that Visa students must confirm their entry clearance (visa status) to the UK four weeks prior to the start of their accommodation booking in the months of June, July and August. We cannot guarantee accommodation placements if visa confirmations are received with less than four weeks' notice.

Visa Applications

Please look carefully at the information below. If you have any questions please contact us or look at the following websites:
www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/
www.ukvisas.gov.uk

Students now have three options for entering the UK as a student:

1. General Student Visa (GSV)

Students who want to study on a General Student Visa can apply by post (the application form can be downloaded from www.ukvisas.gov.uk) or online via the local British Embassy.

You can apply for a General Student Visa for a course of any length. However usually students apply for a GSV if their course is for more than six months.
GSV students can extend their visa in the UK.
If your course is less than 6 months you will probably receive a visa for the length of the course plus 7 days.
If your course is between 6 months and 12 months you you will probably receive a visa for the length of the course plus two months.

You will have to supply biometric data to a UK visa issuing centre before you apply for your visa.

When you make your application you will need:

a) A CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies) statement from a school on the UKBA Register of Sponsors. (King Street College is on the Register)

b) Proof of maintenance funds.
You must have £800 per month for every month you want to study in London up to a maximum of £7,200 for a one year course.
The money can be in your account or, if it is in your sponsor's or parents' account you must have joint access to it.
The money must have been in this account for a minimum of 28 days before you apply for your visa.
If you have not paid for your course in full the balance of the fees must also be in this account.
You can also prove you have the funds by showing a loan in your name or official government sponsorship.

c) Secure English Language Test (SELT)
You must have at least an intermediate (CEFR B1) level of English. We must see one of the following certificates before we can proceed with an application.
The UK Border Agency accepts as proof of level:

IELTS 4.00 (in all skills)
Cambridge PET
TOEIC
TOEFL
Pearson

Please note that we reserve the right to check an applicant's bank statements and verify their SELT before we issue a CAS.
We also conduct SKYPE interviews with GSV students to both confirm their spoken ability and assess their intention to follow the course.

2. Student Visitor's Visa (SVV)

If your level of English is low, or you do not have a SELT, or you want a short course you can apply for a Student Visitor's Visa.

The embassy may interview you to assess your financial situation, your need to learn English and whether they believe you will leave the UK at the end of the course.
A student visitor's visa is issued for a period of up to 6 months.
You cannot change your visa status in the UK and you must wait 6 months before applying for a further SVV.
However you can return home and apply for a GSV or ESVV.

If you are a non-visa national, you can get your passport stamped as a student visitor (allowing you to study for a maximum of six months) free on arrival in the UK.

Non-visa nationals

Argentina Hong Kong Panama
Australia Israel Paraguay
Brasil Japan South Korea
Canada Malaysia Taiwan
Chile Mexico Tibet
Croatia New Zealand Uraguay
Honduras USA

3. Extended Student Visitor's Visa (ESVV)

You should apply for this visa if you want to study for between 6 and 11 months, but your level of English is low, or you do not have a SELT.
You must apply in your own country.
The embassy may interview you to assess your financial situation, your need to learn English and whether they believe you will leave the UK at the end of the course.
You cannot extend your stay or bring dependents.
The minimum age is 18.

Course payment terms

To confirm a place on a course we must receive the registration fee and the course fees in total.

Student initiated changes to the booking (changes to the arrival dates or type of course requested, for example) may incur a further registration fee. This is payable at the discretion of the Principal.

The Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) will show the fees due and fees paid.

Payment can be made by bank transfer, credit card, sterling cheque or cash in our office.

Please note:

Bank transfers must include sufficient funds to cover any bank charges incurred.

Credit card and non-UK debit card payments carry a 4% charge

We must wait until cheques have cleared (up to 10 working days) before we can issue documents or the student can start the course.

Cancelling Courses

The registration fee is non-refundable under any circumstance.

Before arrival in the UK:
EU students: we must have the cancellation in writing two weeks prior to the start of the course. We will refund all fees minus the registration fee.

If we receive less than two weeks notice that you cannot start the course the registration fee and £100 cancellation fee will be retained from the fees paid.

Non-EU students: no refund of course fees can be made once leave to enter the UK has been granted. We strongly advise students to take out insurance to cover course cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances.

If you wish to cancel your course before you apply for a visa please inform us in writing a minimum of two weeks before your course starts. The refund process may be delayed while we seek confirmation from the Immigration Authorities that you have not been granted a visa. We will retain £100 cancellation fee.

After arrival in the UK.

You cannot cancel or postpone your course once it has started. Students may apply, in writing, for a credit for the unused part of their course. This may be used within a two year period, subject to availability. Credit cannot be passed to third parties and can only be used for general English courses. Credit is calculated according to course fees paid, not weeks booked. Students who choose to shorten their courses will lose the weeks not taken.

Visa refusals

King Street College will retain £100 of the course fees plus the registration fee if leave to enter the UK is refused. However we must receive notification that no entry clearance has been granted at least two weeks prior to the course start date or the course will be deemed to have started and a cancellation fee of 50% of the fees will apply.

Refund applications must be made no later than three months after the date of the refusal.

Refunds are not made while appeals are in progress.

Please note that before granting a refund we must receive the following documents:

* Completed Refund Application form. This is available on-line and in the school office

* Original letter of refusal from the UK Immigration Authorities or a fax sent to the College directly by the Immigration Authorities.

* Original letter issued for presentation to the Embassy or Port of Entry Immigration Authorities

Please note it is the responsibility of the student to provide the necessary documentation to support a refund. Delays to the refund process are likely if we are obliged to seek verification of visa status directly from the embassy concerned.

No refunds will be made if:

    * The student is asked to leave the country by the British authorities.

    * The student leaves the UK without permission from the school and is refused re-entry.

    * The student uses fraudulent documentation in their visa application.

Refund payments are made at the end of each month.

Refunds are made to the person or agent who made the original booking.

Refunds are made by sterling cheque or bank transfer (the beneficiary will pay all charges).

Accommodation: booking and general information

To confirm an accommodation booking, we must receive £40 booking fee plus payment for the period booked.
The minimum booking period is two weeks.
All accommodation is subject to availability. Please book early. We need a minimum of two weeks notice in order to guarantee host family accommodation. Late confirmations will be subject to availability.
We reserve the right to place students in the second choice of accommodation if the first choice is unavailable.
Accommodation is only reserved for the period paid for. If you wish to extend your booking please give us two weeks notice.
Student initiated changes to the booking (changes to the arrival dates or type of accommodation requested, for example) may incur a further booking fee. This is payable at the discretion of the Principal. We will endeavour to change a student's host family in case of unsatisfactory standards. This will be done as soon as possible. Requests to change accommodation after arrival for reasons other than unsatisfactory standards are at the discretion of the College and subject to availability at the time of the request. In some circumstances, particularly in long accommodation bookings, it may be necessary to change family: we cannot guarantee you will stay with one family for your whole stay.
All payments for accommodation must be paid directly to the school. Attempts to negotiate rent with landlords will result in your booking being cancelled.

Accommodation booking: non-EU students

Visa confirmation or refusal: we must receive notice of your visa status no less than two weeks prior to the start of your accommodation booking in order to guarantee accommodation. Late confirmations will be subject to availability. If you want the details of your accommodation booking before you apply for a visa, we will confirm the family's name and address on receipt of payment, but please be aware of the accommodation cancellation charges.

Cancelling Accommodation

The accommodation booking fee is non-refundable.

Cancellations received in writing with one week’s notice: all unused rent is refunded minus a £50 cancellation fee.

The first two weeks of accommodation booking cannot be cancelled once leave to enter the UK has been granted.

Airport Transfers

It is your responsibility to inform us of your flight details at least two working days before the date of your arrival.

The service you have paid for includes 90 minutes waiting time from the scheduled arrival time. After this period the driver will, unless instructed to stay, leave the airport. Additional waiting time is charged at £10 per hour.

All full time students are expected to attend all their classes except in the case of illness or authorised holiday. Please note that the UK Border Agency requires 85% minimum attendance.

It is your responsibility to inform the school of illness or other reasons for absence. A doctor's certificate must be obtained to authorise any absence of more than 3 days due to illness.

If you are absent from class without authorisation for more than 10 days, you will be removed from the class register and, if you are on a General Student Visa, reported to the UKBA.

Students are encouraged to be punctual. If you are persistently late or only attend part of the class, you will be removed from the register and, if you are on a General Student Visa, reported to the UKBA.

The school will issue a school leaving certificate only if a minimum of 75% attendance has been recorded.

Use of Computers

You may not access inappropriate sites on the Internet or store personal files on the computers.

Behaviour

Students will be expected to behave respectfully towards other students and members of staff and to observe fire and safety rules displayed in the school.

Persistent poor conduct in class or on the school premises will result in expulsion from the school and the school's accommodation with no refund of fees paid.

Force Majeure

A basic stipulation of the agreement/contract between students and King Street College, or its representatives, is that neither King Street College or its representatives are liable for refunds or damages, however arising, in cases where King Street College is unable to fulfil any services to which they are contractually bound because of labour disputes, insufficient demand for classes or other reasons which are beyond their control.

Liability

The school accepts no responsibility for personal injury and/or loss or damage to personal property on the school premises. This also applies to public and private places included in school trips and excursions.

Terms of Sponsorship for Students on General Student Visas

Documentation
We must have:
a) a copy of your passport (visa and entry / exit stamps) and biometric visa. If you recieve a new visa you must bring this to the office to be scanned.
b) an up to date photograph.
c) up to date contact details: address, mobile, email.
d) contact details of next of kin.

If we believe a student is deliberately giving us incorrect contact information we reserve the right to withdraw sponsorship.

Starting your course
If you enrol, receive a visa, enter the UK, but do not attend within two weeks of the start date of your course you will be reported to the UKBA. We will withdraw our sponsorship and you will have to leave the UK. We will also pass to the UKBA the names and contact details of the person or agency who enrolled you.

Leaving your course
If you miss 10 days of your course without permission or without good reason we will report you to the UKBA.
If you remain absent for a further 5 days we will withdraw our sponsorship and you will have to leave the UK.

In exceptional circumstances we can grant an ‘authorised absence’ of no more than four weeks. This might, for example, allow you to return home for personal reasons or because of illness. All requests for an authorised absence must be accompanied by original documentation: return flight tickets, doctor's certificates etc.

If you need to stop (or defer) your course for any other reason we will have to withdraw sponsorship. If you then wish to return to your course you will have to apply for a new visa.

Attendance
Students must attend 85% of their course over any four week period. Students who attend less will be counselled and the reason for poor attendance investigated. If the pattern continues for a further week sponsorship will be withdrawn and the student asked to leave the UK.

General Compliance
If any member of the school's staff has reason to believe a student is breaking the terms of his / her leave to remain as a student they are obliged to communicate this to the Principal who may inform the UKBA.

Progress
Students must make reasonable progress in their studies. Students who refuse to buy course materials, to do set homework or pay proper attention in class will be counselled. If the pattern of behaviour continues sponsorship may be withdrawn and the student asked to leave the UK.
